Lexar Just Unveiled the World's Thinnest Portable SSD, Here's What UAE iPhone Owners Should Know

Florence Trading editorial team

Lexar used IFA 2026 in Berlin to mark its 30th anniversary with the Lexar Muse, a portable SSD it's calling the world's thinnest, built specifically to snap onto the back of an iPhone rather than sit in a laptop bag.

How Thin Is the Lexar Muse

The Lexar Muse measures 80 x 48 x 3.8mm, roughly the footprint of a credit card, and tapers down to about a single millimeter at its thinnest point. Instead of a regular USB-C port, it connects through Lexar's proprietary PogoPin magnetic connector, and it ships with a magnetic carry sleeve that lets it attach directly to the back of a compatible iPhone, MagSafe-style, with no cable hanging off the side.

What the Lexar Muse Actually Does

Despite the slim body, Lexar rates the Muse at up to 1,050 MB/s read and 1,000 MB/s write speeds, fast enough to record video directly to the drive rather than to onboard phone storage. On compatible iPhones it supports direct 4K at 120fps Apple ProRes recording, aimed squarely at anyone shooting video who doesn't want to eat into their phone's internal storage or shuffle files afterward. Lexar also lists compatibility with iPad, Mac and other USB-C devices, so the drive isn't locked to iPhone alone.

Who Lexar Built It For

The Muse is a clear play for mobile-first creators: people shooting travel reels, product videos or client work entirely on an iPhone, who need reliable overflow storage without carrying a hub, cable and separate drive. That's a growing crowd in the UAE, where phone-based content creation for social media and small business marketing has become a full workflow in its own right, not just a hobby.

Capacity, Price and When You Can Actually Buy One

Lexar has confirmed 512GB and 1TB capacities, with the Muse scheduled to launch in Q4 2026. Pricing hasn't been announced yet, and Lexar itself notes that regional availability, specs and compatibility may vary by market, so treat exact UAE pricing and release timing as unconfirmed until Lexar's regional channels post it.

A Rare Phone-First Storage Launch

Most of the storage headlines this year have been about shortages and price hikes: Kingston has flagged steep NAND wafer price increases, Samsung has pushed DRAM prices up, Western Digital has said its hard drive production is sold out, and Micron has been winding down its Crucial consumer line to redirect supply toward enterprise and AI customers. Against that backdrop, the Lexar Muse stands out as an actual new consumer product aimed at everyday phone-based content creators rather than another price adjustment story.

Why This Matters for UAE Shoppers

Content creation is one of the fastest-growing reasons UAE shoppers buy storage, and a companion drive that survives ProRes-heavy 4K workflows without a cable tangle fills a real gap in most phone accessory lineups. Florence Trading already stocks Lexar's broader range of portable SSDs, memory cards and flash drives for exactly this kind of on-the-go creator setup, so a MagSafe-style companion drive for iPhone shooters would slot in naturally once Lexar confirms UAE pricing and stock.

We'll update this post once the Lexar Muse gets an official UAE launch date and price. In the meantime, browse Florence Trading's current Lexar collection for portable SSDs and memory available today.
